The Big Budapest Wedding

To put the cherry on the top of the 'wedding' cake this year, the last wedding was in Budapest where every little detail was perfect from the location to the food.

Not so usual from me, but I was the first one arriving there from the wedding crowd and so I could walk around a bit in my long princess style dress :) of which I will post tomorrow, but this post will concentrate on one of my oldest friend’s wedding in Budapest.

The location could not have been any better as it was in the Buda Castle district in the very well known, tourist magnet, gorgeously ornamented Matthias (Matthew’s) Church! The view from there over the city is mesmerising too!

We all gathered together in front of the church :) and it was again great to see friends I have not seen for ages.  There were some new boyfriends and girlfriends to be introduced and pretty soon we all were on the same wavelength. Then finally we saw the groom….and then the door of the church opened and the master of ceremony instructed us to go inside the church. Then, once we all sat in silence, overwhelmed by the ornaments and grandiosity of the church, the groom walked down the aisle, then my friend, the bride followed him to the altar. They both looked very good! Eniko’s wedding dress was simple and beautiful!

After a nice and short ceremony, followed by a group photo where we all had to shout ‘water-bike’ ‘vizibicikli’ instead of ‘cheese’ we walked towards the Academy of Music where the civil ceremony took place. That room with a gorgeous chandelier hanging above us, and the mesmerising views…was another great spot for this wedding. The ceremony was super short, but then many advices followed it for the married life.
In Hungary it is normal to thank for the parents and grandparents for bringing up their children to who they are now i.e. the couple themself.  Normally this is the moment when everyone’s eyes get some chilli in them. It is a very emotional moment, making even the groom to show emotions and tears in his eyes.

And before their happily ever after, we normally have a huge party to eat and dance till dawn and celebrate with them! The party was organised in Hemingway Restaurant in Buda side.  The starters were very similar to the other weddings, I was invited to, being foie gras followed by a typical chicken soup. Yummy! :) For main we had a buffet with 5 different types of food to serve all needs for different diets. There were gnocchi, wild boar, beef, turkey, vegetables and fish too.  Later desserts and the midnight menu were served too, because in Hungary the wedding does not stop at midnight! We fill up the people again, so they can drink more and dance more, really until the morning sun lights up the sky! :)

Hungarian music clips to cheer me up 1.

This is a post to all my friends and family members who don't work or live in their home country!

My three weeks holiday in Hungary went so fast and once again in the past 8 years...I need to go back to London and once again I have a last night in Hungary.
Usually the closer I got to the date to leave my home I was always more and more excited to get back to London, but for some reason in the past year this has changed to the opposite. Now I am stressed and feel all alone and hopeless when the day to go back to London is coming. My family knows that I get rather nervous, stressed and melancholic than excited. I get rather sad than happy...but anyway...when I get back to London I am happy again!

My cousin was in the same shoes as well...and I met 2 friends of mine who used to work in foreign countries. We all shared the same feelings...but what is this feeling?? I know for sure this is not homesick as I don't miss anything and I won't be able to live in Hungary anymore...but I feel that I need more adventures again! I feel the urge to leave London, because I am not happy there anymore...

Say goodbye farewell sayonara
From here

I need new adventures...I need a new country, new challenges, settling in again, a new language, more new friends, a new job in a different country, new environment and new stimuli.

So my fellow Hungarians spread in the big world feel free to listen to these songs I listened to in the radio.

The first song is not from Boggie who sang the song Perfume with the controversial videoclip.
Bogi - Feel so right (for you my friends because it feels alright :)

The 2nd song is from Kelemen Kabatban - Maradjatok gyerekek. Funny, but I really hated this band with their first attempt to be in the music scene, and even this song does not really have a strong meaning, but it is very catchy and it just simply means that we should all remain kids relive the first moments! I definitely wanted to put this song here, because it talks about the first times. To embrace the moment when you are a kid and you do something for the first time...and this is what I feel now...as I said earlier...I need adventures to have this first time feeling in a new country's challenges.

The 3rd song is the first song Kedvesem from ByeAlex, who surprisingly won the Hungarian part of the Eurovision Song Contest in 2013. Really liked this song and was proud to my country that they chose and indie singer over the mainstream pop singers.

The 4th song is from a roma singer Mitsou (Miczura Monika) who became famous recently in the world as the woman from a far away country who dared to sue Beyonce, because Mitsou claimed her voice appeared in Beyonce's big hit: Drunk in Love's, first 20 seconds. It is up to you to believe her or not, but at least it made me to listen to her music and I quite liked it. Hope you enjoy it too! And her voice really sound like that voice in Beyonce's song. Go Mitsou!

Did you like any of these songs?
I post 4 more songs tomorrow afternoon.

Tropic of Cancer in Western Sahara

I don't really watch telly, I don't even have one, but sometimes I check what's on on BBC iplayer. That's how it happened that now I regularly watch The Culture Show and anything from traveller Simon Reeves.

The newest series of Simon Reeve is called Tropic of Cancer, where he travelled around the world through the circle of Tropic of Cancer reaching 18 countries.
The 3rd episode will be aired tonight, can't wait to see it!

Anyway why I am writing about this, is because Mr Reeve posted a photo on his Twitter account about the Tropic of Cancer signpost in Western Sahara and for my surprise...in the middle of nowhere, so far from Hungary...the signpost marked this latitude in English and guess what....in Hungarian too...

Signpost marking Tropic of Cancer rakterito in Western Sahara
Tropic of Cancer in Western Sahara (Copyright Simon Reeve)

When I started writing this post, I actually wanted to ask why is that! In Western Sahara the spoken language is Arabic or French but definitely not Hungarian, so I was really intrigued to look for the answer!

I found it :) and will post it here tomorrow! Either updating this post, or in the comment section! :)

Till then be my guest to guess the reason!

*** The answer is easy ***

First of all, I tried to search online amongst the images but that did not give any satisfactory answer…well not any answer…Then I went back to do it in an ‘old skool’ way, THINKING and not using the internet.

So I heard about lost or hidden tribes in the desert that speak Hungarian or something very similar to Hungarian so maybe they live around Dakhla in Western Sahara.
Or was it a lonely or a group of Hungarian explorer(s) who wanted to mark that (s)he/they conquered the Sahara and was able to reach the Tropic of Cancer?
Is this a huge discovery? Some kind of language similarity between Hungarian and a tribal language?

And finally I found the answer: Hungarians always take part in rallies across the world. So the participants from the Budapest-Bamako rally had the idea to actually show to other people where the Tropic of Cancer run through the desert. Well at least someone had the idea to mark it there!

To be honest even the above correct answer went through my mind…but I could not imagine that these rally drivers and assistants would stop in the middle of the desert in the middle of a fast paced race, just to mark where the Tropic of Cancer running through the world…anyway…I was close J Conclusion? Be imaginative anything can happen! J

Boggie: Nouveau Parfum… my new favourite singer

Last week when I quickly browsed the newsfeed on Facebook, Twitter and on other ‘interesting things’ sites, many times I came across a title saying ‘The world goes crazy for Hungarian girl’s video’. I never clicked on it up until tonight, when I thought it's enough and gave in the towel…and it gripped me.

I love female singers with a cute voice, such as Soko’s voice. Surprisingly I really enjoyed the song and Boggie's voice is very cute and tender!

And why it is all over the place now? It’s easy!
The song is good! The text is aligned with what we can see in the video! And this is it! Boggie gets Photoshopped by 'realtime effects'! How?

A soft voice with a soft, slightly tired or drowsy face of her goes through a Photoshop transformation while she never stops singing with her sweet voice. The retouching is rather slow and changes only small things until she arrives to the first verse where she opens up her voice and  has a fastened pace, at this point the Photoshop effects are also more dramatic and apparent. From this point I was totally engaged with the video, the changes and with her voice!

By the end of the song we are presented with a beautiful girl. The same girl, with a full make up and different hair, eyes, complexion, narrower neck etc.
It points out how fake can the celebrities' world can be on the glossy magazine papers and in videos.

Even though she is a beautiful girl, the end moment where they reveal again how she appeared at the beginning of the video compared to how she looks at the end after all those retouching, is shocking!

We should all watch her video and enjoy her voice! (Directed by: Nándor Lőrincz & Bálint Nagy)
