Carsten Höller Exhibition - Weekending!

Hello dear Sentimentals!

Have you got your weekend plans?
I brought you this time a badass exhibition that you should really check out before it's gone!
Carsten Höller, the name, with which all the papers across London was full in June due to its biggest ever London exhibition in the soon closing (for refurbishment) Hayward Gallery at the SouthBank.

Carsten Höller, an artist, and agricultural scientist was brought up in Brussels by German parents. He got in to the art scene in the early 90s. Since then he captivated us with his interesting, grandiose exhibitions around the world. Finally back in London with 'Decisions'.

This Carsten Höller exhibition can be entered from 2 different entrances leading to a pitch-black corridor. It is a little bit like 'Alice in Wonderland'. You can decide which entrance you take, however they lead you to the same room with flying mushrooms. This might have an understanding of being high and seeing the flying mushrooms, which is moved by us and connecting cogs and chains.

Then another decision to be made! Whether to take a pill or not?! What do you think? Tons of pills dropping from the ceiling to the floor...and you can take or eat one! Would you?

After this through couple of other smaller installation you can find yourself in a big room, where you can try the exhibition of the future...people sitting with the cyberworld 3D headsets watching a video about a forest in winter.

While you wait, you can also check out the back wall, which was inspired by perceptual changes triggered by lights after Max Wertheimer.
Or you can check out two...moving on their own...empty...beds in the middle of the room. If you are member of the Gallery, you can apply to stay in one of those intelligent roaming beds for a good night sleep. Just don't be afraid if you wake up in a different location inside the museum!

We then went upstairs to a room with mirrored walls to allow us observing ourselves and others. I still felt a little bit like 'Alice' you know I took the one of those pills and now I was in a room where there was a dice almost twice as tall as me! Is it real or am I hallucinating?

Following this we stepped into an upside down world! Basically you put a special hat/gear on your head and then tadahhh everything is upside-down! I could walk fine and was stable enough, however other people lost their balances and felt a bit dizzy. I think it was really cool!
(Notice the gallery's name is mounted on the wall upside-down to be read normal once you have this gear on your head)

Wow! Still under the effect of the pill I took or not...but yes we were flying! Still not quite but we were flying 6 rounds above London's Southbank!
Tip: probably you will need to wait here. Easy calculation before you step in the queue...count 5 minutes per 2 people. We had 20 peeps before us. 20 divided by 2 times 5 minutes equalled a 50 minutes wait. It's worth it and you don't really feel it that much. Go for it!

Lastly prepare for your last decision in Höller's show! How to exit the exhibition? Would you just walk down the stairs and exit? Or would you slide down Carsten Höller's trademark slides mounted on the gallery's sidewall? We chose the latter...and it was fun!

Tips: Go there 10 minutes after your scheduled entry

Buy the tickets at least a day in advance, otherwise tickets

might go and you'll be disappointed :(

Once in, leave your bag in a locker and try everything!

Good morning Sentimentals! Yay when my best friend was here in London! We spent so much time together as you could see in the previous posts, mentioning her in the post or having her on the images.

The Yellow Zara Blazer

My yellow Zara blazer! When I saw it, it was love for the first sight! I bought it immediately and since then, I am still in love with it!

It's summer so I'd like to be summery in my look as well! Bright colours, like yellow are great! And oh I just remembered, I had that yellow leather pair of Oasis shoes! Plus it would go well with black and white colours and my outfit was ready! :)

My best friend was still here and I took some days off from work and just wanted to enjoy London's sunny side, from another rooftop! This time we went to the Richard Benson-owned The Roof Gardens in Kensington!
The good thing is, if you go day time it's totally free to enter, just make sure you call before you go! There is a bar cafe where you can get some nibbles or drink, but you are also welcome to bring your own food or drink and just enjoy a lazy afternoon in this beautiful milieu. Bold flowers! A little stream! Different gardens - Spanish Garden, Tudor Garden! Roses! and you can even find friendly flamingos! How surreal! In the middle of a busy town like London, on a rooftop, hidden from many...you come up in the lift and a new world opens up in front of you!

I'll see if I have enough good images and I will bring pictures about it tomorrow!

London StreetArt - Trust Icon Part 2

'PAINT' says one of Trust. ICON's street art piece in Camden, North London. As I already mentioned in yesterday's post about Trust. ICON he uses his talent in street art to draw attention and capture the essence of real issues affecting our society or the street-art-world.

What do you think? Is graffiti the same as street art? Or the same as tags? I understand that some people would fight against tags on nice old buildings' walls, however we have to realise that this is not only about kids spraying their names. This is real art! However even artists' opinions are divided on the differences of graffiti and street art. Are they the same? Are they now?

So Trust. ICON came and painted the below piece 'PAINT' on a Camden Wall, protesting for the equality amongst urban artists! Graffiti artist? Street Art? Wall art? The result is the same...that they are painting London's streets much to the delight of many of us!

Another crazily super cool of his talent! I wanted to check this out yesterday...finally a friend knew where it was, but I was too late...even the nearby skaters pointed me to the right direction...however they did not know that unfortunately this was recently painted over by another street artist. Although I really wanted to put this into this blogpost to show you all, so I took it from ICON's own account.

Finally this is the piece that made really made me like his art! Although I was a teenager already when the Teletubbies had their fame...it still brought me back to my childhood. I started following him on his Instagram account and found more and more pieces and soon I fell in love with it!

London StreetArt - Trust Icon Part 1

I decided to feature some of London's street art on the blog because of many reasons! Some of you who don't live here in London has already asked me if I could share my photos with them and maybe because in my teen years I was surrounded by skaters who had done graffitis, tags and streetart around my small town and in the capital...my interest in these colourful pieces lasted. So every now and again I pull my shoes on and walk and walk with my camera around London to find more and more street art|!

I really like most of them, but I have a thing for colourful, cartoon-like wallpieces. By now, I know quite many places where to find the real thing and also getting to know who made them...not in person, but reading about them and I kind of started collecting their London creations.

First of all I would like to show some of TrustIcon's works that I could find here in London. He is from London and left lots of art with his fingerprint 'Trust Icon' on many London street walls. I love what he does because of how he presents them! Real issues with and edge and playfulness! He must be very clever or just able to see beyond and able to pinpoint the issues of our society using cartoon figures combined with stencil humans.

In all his works he has something current, something important to say to all of us, like a philosopher telling the big truth of life to its students; making them vibrant yet simple!

In this first part of TrustIcon's London works I tried to pull together some of his old stuff and the Disney inspired works I was able to find on London's walls.
